Big Data Summer Program 2019

The 2019 Big Data Summer Program (BDSP) dramatically expanded to include students and faculty from Africana Studies, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Economics, Health Education, and Mathematics. Fourty-five SFSU students learned key skills in data science and applied them to original research projects. The program culminated in the students presenting their work in the poster session at the SFSU Summer Research Symposium. Projects included:
- Airbnb-Listing Buzzwords: From Cities Across the U.S.
- Big data analysis of local environments that promote acetylation in proteins
- Can Google search data on contraception predict teen birth rates?
- Community Based Organizations (CBOs)
- Comparing the difference in gene expression of pain sensitive genes in the central nervous system
- Comparing the proteome of Hawai'ian coral reefs
- Determining which social media platforms engage SFSU students most effectively
- Forensic genetics and protected health information
- Investigating health disparities: Preliminary data analysis of the 2017 national child health survey
- The Great Sunflower Project: Pollinator service exploration map
